Cable United Church of Christ Scholarship

This scholarship is funded by proceeds from Cable UCC’s annual Mardi Gras Pancake Supper. First awarded in 2006, the scholarship was established to honor 1998-99 interim Cable UCC pastor Reverend Robert “Bob” Wilson. It was Bob’s intention to award students more likely to go into the trades than to continue on with a four- year college degree. This practice continues to this day.

Who was Bob Wilson? Bob filled in for Pastor Lynn Larson when Lynn was on a sabbatical leave from October 1998 to April 1999. Bob was much more than an interim pastor. He graduated from Yale Divinity School and Columbia University. He served as a military chaplain at the US Army Headquarters in Europe as well as the Pentagon, and was a member of the staff and faculty at the US Army Chaplain School. Upon retiring from the Army, he served as an interim pastor of Methodist and Presbyterian churches in Northwest Wisconsin for 25 years, including eight years as pastor of the Mellen Congregational Church.
