Cable Area Food Shelf

The Cable Area Food Shelf is now in its fourth year and serves residents in the Cable area.  The Food Shelf idea was brought to the forefront by our former Pastor Deb Pyne, who envisioned all four churches and the C.A.R.E. organization working together to provide a food pantry for the needy in our area.  We investigated different models of food shelves, visiting several in the area. BRICK When we visited The BRICK in Ashland and found that they had grant funding to open a satellite food shelf, we decided it was an opportunity for us to become part of an established non-profit organization that could help do the fund raising and help us obtain Second Harvest food as well food from other sources.

The BRICK provided start-up funding to help us get going and Bob Rasmussen graciously provided us a rent-free location in the accessible lower level of the Professional Building at the corner of Highway 63 and Spruce Street in Cable.

Teri HansonTeri Hanson manages the Cable Area FoodshelfThe community has been so generous, with individuals and organizations providing both monetary and food donations totaling an average of over 350 pounds of food per month allowing us to serve an average of over 30 needy families per month.

The Food Shelf is open the fourth Thursday of each month, with the exception of November and December when we’re open the third Thursday due to the holidays the fourth weeks of those months.  We’re open from 11:00 to 6:00 and welcome those in need.  We also offer information about more sustainable help for families in need as we are here for emergency need.

The food shelf is now operated by a group of coordinators from each of the churches in Cable and from the C.A.R.E. organization.  Each organization takes a turn in the monthly rotation to staff the Food Shelf.  Teri Hanson is the overall coordinator for Food Shelf contact at 715-795-2760.

Please mark your calendars now for March 28, 2015, the date of our fourth Empty Bowl event fundraiser and plan to come out for the great food, all donated by area businesses, and entertainment, all for the benefit of the Cable Area Food Shelf.
